Casting and Press Moulding

Traditionally industrial methods used to produce identical products, here casting and press moulding produce unique pieces conceived from incompatible fragments and pieces of plaster moulds.

Remnants of the industrial making processes of mould making and slip casting form essential features of the work, such as the fragile spine like projections formed by the moulding seams. Simultaneously the gestural marks of the human maker leave a visible history of working through a direct understanding of material. Each object remains necessarily different, unrepeatable, and unpredictable. As such, they are inextricably related to a craft heritage.
